"Brihat Shramadaana" at Ubrangala temple on 16.10.2022, Sunday

It was a memorable day for the more than 200 people who had assembled in the temple on Sunday morning following the call by the Jeernodhara committee for shramadaan. Men & women - including many senior citizens, boys & girls from different corners of the village, and youth club members participated in the `tanu-mana` seva. Special mention has to be made of the 15-member team of volunteers from Mangalore who accompanied our Brahmakalasha committee president, Mr. Madhsudan Ayar. A group prayer was held at the temple at 9 AM, before starting the shramadaan. Mr. Madhusudan Ayar donated material needed for the manual work, including a small cart for moving heavy items like stone etc.

A light drizzle made the initial hour`s work a bit tedious, but later in the forenoon, the skies cleared. The organisers split the group into 5 teams. Each team was given work at different sites around the temple. The primary task was to clear the footpath to Katnuji Shasthara moolasthanam, and Dhoomavathi daivasthanam - both of which were not in commutable condition. Apart from these, the area around the Nagabana and temple premises were also to be cleaned.

Katnuji site:

Two teams worked in the Katnuji site, one - clearing the narrow footpath  in the hilly region and the other in the arecanut garden pathway. Laterite stones were paved for the 2 feet pathway. It was a tough ask for the party working in the narrow curvilinear path, which had turned into a mudpool because of the morning drizzle. As far as possible, laterite stones were laid on the path, forming the steps required in certain sections.

 Dhoomavathi daivasthanam site:

2 teams worked here too. One team concerntrated on the leading to Dhoomavathi gudi from temple and the other team focussed on the path from Agalpady. Both ways commuting was a herculean task, being very narrow and  running beside the Ubrangala rivulet.

 Temple site:

The highlight of today`s shramadaana seva was the scene of Agalpady temple Trustee Mr. Uppangala Vasudeva Bhat doing his bit of shramadana and also encouraging those doing shramadaana. Brahmakalasha committee President Mr. Madhsuhan Ayar`s whole family actively performed the tanu-mana work. Many women also actively took part in the Shramadaana seva. The Mangalore team cleared the vegetations near the Naga bana  and also shifted the tiles, wooden logs etc to places directed by the organising coordinators.

Tiffin was served at 11 AM & lunch at 2 PM. Buttermilk & water were served to the shramadaanis by the nearby families.
